Privacy Policy

Aslam Azis (“we,” “us,” or “our”) built Muthmainnah as a local-first prayer companion app. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what choices you have. It is written to match exactly what the app’s code does — not a generic template — so if anything here seems inconsistent with the app’s actual behavior, please contact us using the details below.

1. Summary

Muthmainnah is designed to work fully offline and does not require an account. Almost everything the app does — calculating prayer times, scheduling notifications, running Auto-Silent, tracking reminders and the Hijri calendar — happens entirely on your device. We do not run analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind, and we do not operate any server that receives your personal data.

2. Information the app uses

  • Location. If you choose “Use my current location,” the app reads a one-time GPS position from your device to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction for where you are. This location is stored only on your device (a single saved location, overwritten each time you change it) and is never transmitted to us or to any third-party analytics or advertising service. If you are in Indonesia and choose an official city, the app instead sends only that city’s name/identifier to the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) public prayer-time API — never your GPS coordinates.
  • Prayer configuration and preferences.Per-prayer time offsets, Auto-Silent settings, reminder schedules, Hijri calendar adjustments, chosen adhan sound, app theme, and language are stored locally on your device and never leave it (except as part of an optional encrypted backup — see below).
  • Purchase status. If you purchase Muthmainnah Pro, the purchase itself is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store or Google Play — we never see your payment details. We store only a local, non-authoritative flag indicating you have Pro, re-verified against the store on request (the “Restore Purchases” option in Settings).
  • Optional cloud backup (Pro feature).If you turn on backup, your configuration is encrypted on your device (AES-256-GCM, using a key that never leaves your device) before being uploaded to your own Google Drive (in a hidden, app-only folder your other apps and files can’t see) or your own iCloud account. We never receive a copy of this backup, encrypted or otherwise — it goes directly from your device to your own cloud account using Google’s/Apple’s own sign-in.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect or have access to: your name, email address, contacts, photos, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or any analytics about how you use the app. We do not use cookies, SDKs for advertising or attribution, or any third-party tracking technology. Muthmainnah has no user accounts and no login.

4. Third-party services

The app communicates with the following services, only for the stated purpose, and only when you take the corresponding action:

  • Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) public API— official prayer schedules for Indonesian cities. Receives only a city name/identifier and date.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Billing— processes your Pro purchase. We never see your card details; see Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies for how they handle payment information.
  • Google Drive / Apple iCloud— only if you turn on backup, and only to your own account, as described above.

We do not sell or share your information with any other third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

5. Data retention and your choices

Everything the app stores locally is deleted when you uninstall the app, or you can clear specific settings from within the app itself. An optional cloud backup remains in your own Google Drive/iCloud account until you delete it yourself (from within the app, or directly through Google Drive/iCloud, since it’s your account, not ours) — we have no ability to delete it for you, because we never had access to it in the first place.

6. Children’s privacy

Muthmainnah is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because the app collects no personal information beyond an optional, on-device location and does not use tracking or advertising, we do not believe it raises children’s-privacy concerns, but please contact us if you have any concern.

7. Security

Local data lives in your device’s normal app storage. Backup data is encrypted end-to-end (AES-256-GCM) before it ever leaves your device, using a key stored in your device’s secure keystore/keychain — we have no way to read it.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for a material change, note it within the app.
